5 outdoor cinemas

Where you can admire the (film) stars

Summertime means time spent outdoors! And when night falls, there’s nothing better than cooling down with a film to end a hot day in the city. Brussels is the place to be: like every summer, you can enjoy free outdoor film screenings organised by independent cinemas. This is where to go.

Bruxelles fait son cinéma

Bruxelles fait son cinéma kicks off the outdoor cinema season, with screenings from the end of June until mid-July. On top of a varied programme, this completely free open-air film festival sets up its screen in a different location every evening.

And the best part? The festival is being held in all 19 communes, so you’re sure to find a screening near you. Feeling adventurous? It’s also the perfect opportunity to discover new places in Brussels.

L’heure d’été

Feel like watching some high-quality films of different genres? Cinéma Galeries once again hosts the open-air film festival L’heure d’été. The screenings usually take place in Brussels city, but sometimes also in Anderlecht.

And the best part? Every summer the programme revolves around an international city, so you can explore a new part of the world without leaving your seat.

Ciné plein air

La Vénerie welcomes you to Watermaal-Bosvoorde for one film screening each month during the summer. Fun fact: the programme is a collaboration between schools and shops in the neighbourhood.

And the best part? The audience has the last say when it comes to the film of the evening. You have two options to choose from, and it’s decided the very day of the screening.

Une Toile sous les étoiles

From mid-July until mid-August you can end every Wednesday with a film in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, thanks to the Wolubilis summer programme. You don’t even need to sign up for these screenings.

And the best part? If you didn’t get to watch this year’s blockbusters when they came out, this is your chance to see them on the big screen, for free!

Cinéma Plein Air

Feel like September is too soon to say goodbye to summer? Don’t worry, Le Jacques Franck is there to help you beat your end-of-summer blues with their traveling cinema in Saint-Gilles.

And the best part? Every screening takes place in a different location, so no neighbourhood is left behind.
